Nannies:
» Minimum age of 20 years
» For Sole charge roles a minimum of 2 years full time childcare experience and a recognised childcare qualification is essential.
» For Mothers Help roles a minimum of 12 months full time childcare experience and a recognised childcare qualification is essential.
» If no childcare qualifications are held a minimum of 4 years full time childcare experience is essential.
The Nanny’s role/duties:
All our nannies are experienced in the provision of care and educational development of children of varied ages. Their role is to stimulate and encourage the child’s emotional, intellectual, physical, social and language development. While our nannies main priorities are the care and well being of each child, they must also undertake some household chores and responsibilities relating to the children’s daily lives including:
» Taking the children to and from playgroups/schools
» Taking the children to additional activities and outings
» Preparation of all meals
» Children’s laundry and ironing
» Maintaining children’s bedrooms and play areas
» Organising doctor, dentist appointments

Working conditions for Nannies
Hours: Approx 10 hours per day with 2 days off per week
Note: A nanny required to work weekends should have 1 weekend off per month
Holidays: Minimum 4 weeks paid plus bank holidays
Permanent posts: contracts are initially for 1 year
Accommodation: Live in nannies are provided with their own bedroom, including a television and where possible a private bathroom
Travel: By prior arrangement many nannies travel overseas with the families
Babysitting: Outside of the nannies working hours, babysitting is treated as an additional extra unless otherwise agreed with the nanny.
Professional Childcare Qualifications: Irish nannies may hold any of the following qualifications:
» FETAC Level 5 or Level 6 in Childcare
» NNEB Nursery Nurse Diploma
» City & Guilds Childcare Certificate
» NCEA/NCVA Certificate in Childcare
» CACHE Diploma in Childcare
» B.A in Early Childhood Education
These courses are usually for 1 – 2 years full time, part time or by correspondence. These courses cover all aspects of childcare from birth onwards. Other relevant qualifications included Montessori Teaching Diplomas, Child Psychology Degrees and other such related qualifications. Overseas nannies hold similar qualifications to Irish Nannies.
